Why this clinic

What is actually different here

Kolkata has no shortage of physiotherapy centres. Here is what sets this one apart — stated plainly enough that you can check it.

Your programme is written by a hospital consultant, not a technician.

Dr. Arghya Prakash Dey holds senior posts at three Kolkata hospitals alongside running Physiotrix — Head of Department at Narayan Memorial, Senior Consultant at Woodlands and at Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Joka. Two are inside this clinic’s catchment.

The training is unusual for a private clinic.

BPT from IPGME&R Kolkata, with advanced clinical training at Christian Medical College Vellore and Kasturba Medical College, MAHE Manipal. Those are national-tier institutions — patients in Behala have historically travelled into central Kolkata for care at this level.

Neurology is a genuine specialisation here, not a service listing.

The MPT is in Neurology and the ongoing doctoral research is in neurorehabilitation. For a stroke or Parkinson’s patient, that distinction is the whole decision.

One therapist, start to finish.

You are not handed between staff each session. The clinician who assessed you runs your progression.

Progress is measured, not asserted.

Range of motion, pain scores and functional milestones are recorded at each review. If a plan is not working, the numbers say so before you waste six weeks.

Post-discharge rehabilitation

Continuing care after your hospital stay

Several of the largest hospitals in South-West Kolkata sit inside this clinic’s catchment. We take post-discharge referrals and work to your treating consultant’s protocol.

Vivekananda Hospital, Thakurpukur 1.7 km
Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre & Research Institute, Thakurpukur 3.1 km
CMRI (Calcutta Medical Research Institute), Alipore 4.0 km
Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, Alipore 4.3 km
ESI Hospital, Joka 4.4 km
Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hospital, Joka 4.6 km

+ many more hospitals and nursing homes across the catchment.

Bring your discharge summary and surgical protocol to the first appointment and we will build the programme around it.

Home visits

Home visit physiotherapy across South-West Kolkata

Some patients should not be travelling. A stroke patient in the first months. Someone six days out of knee replacement. An elderly patient on an upper floor with no lift. Diamond Harbour Road is one of the busiest arterials in this part of the city and congests badly around Behala Chowrasta at peak hours — for those patients that journey is not a minor inconvenience, it is the reason treatment gets skipped.

A home visit includes the same assessment and hands-on treatment as the clinic, portable equipment where needed, and family training — because with bed-bound and neurological patients, the attendant’s technique matters as much as the therapist’s.

Living further east, or in central Kolkata? Our Ballygunge clinic covers Ballygunge, Gariahat, Golpark, Park Circus. Call either number and we will route you to whichever team reaches you faster.

Lady physiotherapist available

Many patients — women in post-natal recovery, women with pelvic or back pain, elderly women receiving treatment at home — are more comfortable being treated by a woman. It is a reasonable preference and nobody should have to negotiate it awkwardly.

Post-natal recovery

Rebuilding core strength and easing back and pelvic pain after childbirth.

Pelvic and back pain

Assessed and treated by a female clinician, in a setting you are comfortable in.

Treatment at home

Elderly women seen at home across Behala and South-West Kolkata.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Where is Physiotrix Behala?

601, Diamond Harbour Road, beside the Manton bus stop, Behala, Kolkata 700034 — roughly 350 metres from Behala Bazar metro station on the Purple Line.

How do I get there by metro?

Behala Bazar station on the Purple Line is about a four-minute walk. The line runs elevated along Diamond Harbour Road between Joka and Majerhat, so the clinic is directly reachable from Joka, Thakurpukur, Sakherbazar, Taratala and Majerhat without changing transport. From central Kolkata you would change at Majerhat.

Who will treat me?

Your programme is designed and supervised by Dr. Arghya Prakash Dey, BPT (IPGME&R Kolkata), MPT in Neurology, Ph.D. research scholar in neurorehabilitation, and Consultant & Head of Department at Narayan Memorial Hospital. Treatment is delivered by our consultant physiotherapists at the clinic.

Do you provide physiotherapy at home in Behala?

Yes, across Behala, Thakurpukur, Joka, Sarsuna, Barisha, Parnasree, Sakherbazar, Haridevpur, New Alipore, Taratala and surrounding areas. Call +91 90519 52221 to check availability for your locality.

Is a lady physiotherapist available?

Yes, for clinic appointments and home visits. Mention your preference when booking.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No. You can book an assessment directly. If you have a referral, prescription or surgical protocol, bring it and we will work within it.

How many sessions will I need?

Acute muscular pain often settles in 5–8 sessions. Frozen shoulder and post-surgical rehabilitation typically run 6–12 weeks. Neurological rehabilitation is a longer, staged process. You get a realistic estimate at the first assessment, not an open-ended commitment.

Do you treat stroke and paralysis patients?

Yes — it is our lead consultant’s specialisation. He holds a senior consultant post in neurorehabilitation at Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hospital in Joka, 4.6 km from this clinic, and his doctoral research is in the field. We treat stroke, hemiplegia, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury at the clinic and at home.

Can you help after knee or hip replacement surgery?

Yes. Post-operative rehabilitation after knee and hip replacement, ACL reconstruction, spine surgery and fracture fixation is a core service. Early-stage cases are usually best handled as home visits.

Do you have another clinic?

Yes — our Ballygunge clinic at 11/11A Mayfair Road serves Ballygunge, Gariahat, Park Circus, Bhowanipore and Kasba.
